Sonoff keeps dropping Wifi connection after 1.5.4 -> 1.5.5 firmware update

hi people of the earth :-)
I have 3 sonoffs operating for 6 months or so and have lately updated all three from firmware 1.5.4 to 1.5.5. They have worked without any hickups until now (well, almost..) After updating to 1.5.5 all my 3 sonoffs' started repeatedly dropping the wifi connection every minute or so, until they eventually are not able  to connect anymore.

Then i need to power them off, "cold boot" - then they behave ok for a while but eventually, after about an hour, starts dropping the wifi again, more and more frequently until it eventually is not able to connect to the router at all.

My wifi router is a Draytek 2820Vn, ive tested with or without firewall, qos, DOS detection,  Bandwith managements etc etc, the router has the latest firmware installed. ... but - still no go".

I've logged the problem with the routers syslog software, the reported insidents

"WLAN_DBG - MLME Disassoc" means that the SONOFF takes the initiative to the disconnects. Disconnects triggered by the router would've given a different log message.

they did NOT behave like this when running fw 1.5.4.
I have, hand on hearth, changed nothing else on my netwrok, only the sonoff firmware..
therefore, to my understanding it must be a mproblem with the latest wifi related changes is in firmware 1.5.5.  anyone else wiht the same issue? .. itead..? .. any ideas?
thanks in advance. SH / Barcelona

MODERATOR, if you read this - I'm the topic starter. I suggest you delete this entire thread/topic. My problem disappeared the very same moment our ISP finished work on the neighbourhoods adsl connection , ie. it turns out none of the observations and tests we have performed have been relevant.

It aslo explains why -Nobody- else have experienced the same issue. And damn you Jazztel for wasting my time. so, delete at will. its working Fine now. .. Thank you :-)

I have the same problem of you with a Mikrotik router.

Now I'm trying Open DNS and short preamble.

Previous firmware was most offline than online. Current firmware it's always disconnected.

From the Mikrotik router, I can see the sonoff signal, not so weak, It is the sonoff that doesn't want to use the connection.

hi andrea :-) .. well good luck... as you understood from my endless rant, the dns or the sgi setting may not be the cause. (but it may help a little changing it) I've later tried with googles dns again (8.8.8.8), and it now works .. it didnt earlier, so somehow this issue must've been caused by a problem with our ISP.
(Our network -has- been rather laggy, late ping replies and problems streaming .. which is also a wee better now)
We had the same problem regardless of which router i tried, and i later bought a sonoff TH16 and POW, and they -also- had the same problem. Not until recently when we lost our ADSL internet connection for half a day - and would you bl##dy know, if was Fine when the d#mn isp conected us back up. well, good luck, .. and let me know if you find anything out.... would be useful to know......

bytheway, it wasnt the preabmle i testet, it was the SGI "(short) guard interval"
see below if you like, these are my current wifi settings.
you can see im using narrow band (20 mega og gigahertz, what do i know) and long preamble enabled.
Im not sayin these settings are optimal but its this is what i left them at after hours of mocking about, and the sonoffs works, so i havent bothered tinkering any further.
tada S

I have the same problem. I have 6 S20 with firmware 1.5.5 and and 6 T1 switches all working fine except two S20 plugs having the same issue as your, it disconnects goes offline and it only comes back online when I unplug and plug it back again. Can't resolve the problem.

hi moosa. my 3x sonoffs, 2x Pow and 1x Th16 are now all behvaing well after almost half a year of havoc. Unfortunately, i cannot conclude why it has "resloved itself", i think it had to do with the ISP. but try: 1. Switch to openDNS, 2. Set router bandwidth to 20Mhz, 3. Set Long Preamble, 4, set Guard Interval  (SGI) to "long". test and report back?  it would be great if you could help shed som light on this......(!)

Hi Stian, Thanks for the the help appreciated, I will try and post the results but it will take some time cos I am away on holiday now. I also got a reply from Itead check the link it might be useful http://support.iteadstudio.com/support/discussions/topics/11000001238

happy holidays and thanks for the link, it looks like a good resource. reading quickly, my sonoffs did indeed get their mac adresses replaced after the 1.5.5 firmware upgrade, i -did- think that was a bit odd, not the best thought through firmware upgrade i'd say. Its been so long since this started but I first suspected the firmware upgrade and spent an awful lot of time investigating, but now im not sure anymore... I wont rant any further cos I'm simply out of ideas and all my 6 sonoffs work spotlessly now (!) since a few weeks - even though say I -cannot- understand what changed. could it be that the sonoff didnt contact the itead server for 12 hours while my internet connection was out? .. would you try leaving -one- of your troublesome s20's disconnected for 24 hours and see if that helps? maybe something times out in the server end - giving you a new 'lease of some sort. im alle ears! :-)
